Ski touring trip to Forcella della Lavina on the last day of winter. See how it is to ski 2.500m in two days on this guided ski touring trip in the Alps.
Lillies started blossoming. Fresh onion and wild garlic for sale in the fresh produce markets. Temperatures in mid-20s. It's the time of the year to hit the steep northerly slopes in our corner of the world.
This weekend we took a few participants from this season's ski touring course on a guided two-day ski touring/mountaineering trip in Slovenia.
Here's a little trip report.
The start of the weekend had a typical Spring-like setting. Frozen road, green forests and white target in the back.
Final leg of the climb to our first peak on day 1: Veliki Draški Vrh
Skiing down the peak with our next target in the back: Srenjski preval saddle and Viševnik to the right from it
Short walk with Viševnik peak in the back.
On day two, we move past the Mangart lakes towards the northern slopes ahead of us.
As we get closer we see the Forcella della Lavina (literally avalanche fork) with the right 'fork spike' - our target for the day.
Couple of hours later, the view from top of the 'fork'.
We do the final section on foot..
...and the well-deserved 1.000m of steep downhill..
...from the wide couloir...
...to the forest.
By the looks of it, this was one of the last season's ski touring trip to this area. Snow is melting fast and we just found enough ice and snow to ski all the way to the car.

‘Moving your limits’ isn’t necessarily about the highest mountains, deepest canyons or oldest ruins. But it is about great adventures. It’s about that constant pursuit of world’s secrets – cultural as well as natural. It’s about how we move in nature and raise our expectations about each and every place in the world - moving our mental and physical limits on the way.
