Wallpaper: Dry walls in Kornati National Park in Croatia

Drywalls are rock constructions typical for coastal Croatia.  They were built centuries ago and although they were constructed with no adhesive or mortar, they survive to this day almost intact. Walls were build to traverse or frame unforgivingly baren fields of Adriatic coast.

They were built out of necessity. In some places, the ground was cleared from carbonate rocks to create space for farming. In other places, like on this image on island Kornat, dry walls were built to limit movement of livestock – sheep and goats. Kornati's dry walls traverse 60km long island vertically and horizontally as they divide lands and are still used today for the same purpose today.
