Croatia is a summer destination. It's becoming synonymous with beaches, crickets and crystal clear sea. But there is more to it. As Stipe Božić, mountaineer, photographer and writer with many Himalayan peaks under his feet, once said: 'in winter, you have almost himalayan conditions in the Dinarid mountain range'. (Dinara being the stretch of mountain along most of the Croatian coast.)
Temperatures here, just kilometers away from the coast, can get well below minus. Add a strong dry wind (Bura) to it and the effect is - extremely cold. Side effect of these harsh conditions is the visually stunning landscape. Here a photo from one of our winter Velebit adventures just above Zadar for this week's wallpaper share.
