Here is an unusual acquaintance on one ski touring trip in Switzerland. Freya Stark's quote comes to mind: 'Curiosity is one thing invincible in nature.'
Freya Stark was a British - Italian explorer and travel writer who wrote books about her travels in the Middle East and Afghanistan between the two World Wars. She did some kick-ass trips in Iran and ventured into territories where no other westerner has gone. Beyond curiosity, she had a point of view very that is equally insightful and resonating today: ‘One can only really travel if one lets oneself go and takes what every place brings without trying to turn it into a healthy private pattern of one's own and I suppose that is the difference between travel and tourism.’ We completely agree.
